Downtown South is looking for creative people to submit a design for a project that is all about DTSO love. We love our businesses and we want to show it by producing a special artistic icon.
Why, you ask? While adventuring in the Keys, one of our Economic Vitality Committee Members (Yes – Join a DTSO committee and your ideas get implemented!) saw the heart to the right proudly displayed at several businesses. When asked about the adorable hearts, the business owners said that they would just appear and were given out to businesses who have made their own significant mark on the island. In essence, they put love into their businesses, making the island unique and fun, and the community gave love back in the form of these awesome pieces of art. Wow.
Did the business owners LOVE their new pieces of art? The answer was obvious, the hearts lined the streets and even lit up at night. And it made the island even more unique, fun, and welcoming to both islanders and tourists. (Does this sound like a #ALocalThing to you or what?)
Are you getting the gist here? Downtown South wants to spread some love to our businesses by doing a similar project and we need YOUR help to do it! We are looking for original designs for a Downtown South icon.
Downtown South is looking for designs that embody the spirit of the district. It would be great to see designs that show the love that you have for Downtown South. The horrific events at Pulse Nightclub have forever left a mark on the district. It would be great to see proposals that incorporate a memorial to those tragic events; however it does not have to be the main focus of the piece.
- Must have a heart largely incorporated into the design
- Must be no more than 3′ x 3′ in size and no smaller than 1′ x 1′
- Artist may suggest material to be used
- Must be a reasonable weight to be hung on a wall
- No specific business logos or branding shall be in the design
Please include with your submission:
- Contact information (name, address, email, phone)
- Links to previous works (if applicable)
- Brief narrative – 100 words or less – about your submission
- Brief explanation – 200 words or less – if your submission is selected, how will it be reproduced?
Just to clarify, we are putting out a call for artists for a DESIGN. Downtown South will be producing the icons and will take artist recommendations on materials. Recommendations, due to cost restraints and durability, may or may not be used. We definitely want your input on production if your design is selected — we just don’t want to promise you the moon.
The deadline to submit is August 2, 2016. You may submit your proposal to email@example.com
