About

Downtown South Orlando Overview

Downtown South, a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation, was established in the fall of 2008 by a group of local residents and business owners, who recognized its potential and wanted to make a difference in the quality of life for all.

The City of Orlando recognizes the important role neighborhood commercial districts play in the overall health of neighborhoods as they contribute to a good quality of life. The City of Orlando offers business district revitalization support to Orlando neighborhood commercial districts.

Through The Orlando Main Street Program, districts chosen receive financial and technical assistance and intensive training in the Main Street 4 Point approach (Design, Economic Restructuring, Organization and Promotion). Each Main Street organization hires a full time Executive Director, raises matching funds, incorporates its organization and implements its programs according to an annual work plan.

Plans for Downtown South include creating and preserving retail opportunities, walkable destinations, civic spaces and streetscape. Banners with our logo will line our streets and highlight our area for visitors and shoppers alike.

To accomplish our goals we will support existing businesses, recruit unique shops, plant trees and flower beds, add bicycle racks, establish annual events and festivals, and work closely with businesses and residents to continue to improve our wonderful area through revitalization, investment and beautification.
