Downtown South Prepares for Small Business Saturday

(ORLANDO, Fla. – October 28, 2014) For the fourth consecutive year, Downtown South will participate in Small Business Saturday, November 29, 2014, on Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Downtown South, the organization representing the businesses in the south end of downtown Orlando, is encouraging proprietors to display signage and use social media to share specials via Twitter (@DowntownSouth) and Facebook. Downtown South will be promoting participating business specials and supply signage.

American Express founded Small Business Saturday in 2010 to help businesses attract more customers. The single-day event has grown each year since its inception.

The neighborhoods of Downtown South include Lake Cherokee, Greenwood, Lake Davis, Lake Copeland, Delaney Park, Wadeview Park, Lancaster Park, Southern Oaks, Skycrest, Pineloch Village, Bel Aire, Thousand Oaks, Copley Square and Lofts at SODO.

Downtown South, established in 2008 as part of the National Main Street program, is one of seven Orlando Main Street programs initiated by Mayor Buddy Dyer. The Downtown South program focuses on business district revitalization. Main Street programs involve residents working in partnership with businesses and commercial property owners to revitalize the commercial district through creating events, new streetscapes and recruiting and retaining businesses. The Downtown South area encompasses Orange Avenue from Gore on the North to Pineloch on the South, and Michigan Street from Fern Creek on the East and Division on the West.
