Constitution Green, which is home to several large oak trees, including one estimated to be over 125 years old, is officially becoming a City-owned greenspace.

Constitution Green’s park space was owned by Downtown South’s Caruso family. They’ve leased the property to the city for $1/year since the late 1980s.

On Monday, in a packed room, City Council formally approved the purchase of Constitution Green Park for $3.34M and the city-owned parcel at 129 E. Gore St (currently home to one of Downtown South’s business members, BMO Harris Bank).

Commissioner Patty Sheehan and Soil & Water Conservation Supervisor Eric Rollings (also a local resident in Downtown South) played an instrumental role in preserving this greenspace within the City Beautiful.
