OFFICIAL Drink of Downtown South Citrus Cocktail Contest

Rules and Regulations Create Your Citrus Recipe: Members and Non Members of Downtown South are eligible to submit recipe.
Contestants drink recipe must include a citrus element to qualify.
Maximum number of alcohol and non-alcohol components should not exceed six (6), including drops, rinses and dashes. Recipes should contain at least two alcoholic ingredients: one must be utilized as a base spirit and one as a modifying spirit. All garnishes must be edible and prepared by contestant; fresh garnish ingredients (only natural fruits may be used for garnish) specified in the finalists’ recipes will be provided. Use of manufactured garnishes will not be allowed, except for straws and toothpicks, which will be provided if requested in advance by contestant. If the finalist cannot be present to prepare the cocktail the evening of the competition, the cocktail cannot be prepared by a surrogate. Each participant’s entry must be received by email to [email protected] no later than Midnight on August 30th, 2013. Entries received after this time will be disqualified. Five finalists will be selected, notified and announced on September 6th, 2013. Winning Recipe to be chosen September 16th, 2013:
Five finalists and 1 alternate will present their drinks at Downtown South’s Fall Festival “Citrus Cocktail Contest” on September 19th, 2013 at 6 PM to be held at Doc’s Streetside Grille. Each contestant will present five identical cocktails, one for each judge. Corresponding glasses will be provided for your judges drink sample. Time for preparing the five cocktails in front of the judges should not exceed six (6) minutes from the start of preparation to service. You will be expected to be “on deck” approximately ten minutes before you will begin your presentation, a representative of Downtown South will notify you when to be “on deck”. Staff from Doc’s Streetside Grille will prepare your recipe to serve approximately 150 people. Your batch will need to be sufficient enough to serve 50-100 1 oz sample portions in tasting cups. Base spirits, modifying spirits, readily available fruits and juices will be provided by Downtown South. Finalists will need to arrive at Doc’s Streetside Grille by 4:30 pm to assist in batching the contest drinks that will be served in sample portions to guests. A Downtown South Crowd Favorite prize will be awarded to the contestant whose drink receives the most votes from event attendees. Standard bar tools will be provided; Boston shakers, bars spoons, Hawthorn strainers, etc. Contestants may, at their request, use their own non-branded bar tools and their own fruit for garnishes.
